Teaching can be a stressful job however; it can also be fun and very rewarding. In order to ensure that the students get the maximum out of the lessons, it will be helpful to keep certain factors in mind.
Learn
Although you are the teacher this does not mean that you cannot learn as well. However, in order for you to be able to learn, you need to keep an open mind. Keeping an open mind will allow you to learn from your students as they too can teach you. For instance, students can teach you how to be patient, they can teach you how to change your method when a method is not working and they can teach you how to be a better teacher.
Individual attention
Giving children individual attention when in a classroom is important. This can be difficult as you have to share your attention between many children but trying to identify which children need more attention and help than others is important. By doing this you can try to make sure that no child is left behind and that all the students in the classroom are able to move forward together.
Make it fun
Children go to school to learn and learning is important however, as a teacher you should try and make your students want to learn instead of making them think that they have to learn. You can do this by making lessons fun and finding creative ways of teaching. For example, looking into teaching resources for primary school can be helpful. This will help you get access to age-appropriate resources to teach the students.
Patience
It is very important to have patience when teaching. It is a good idea to remind yourself every now and then that it is the teacher’s job is to make sure the child understands the lesson. Therefore, if a child is struggling, getting frustrated and yelling at the student is not going to help them understand.
It is good to remember that it is not only you that will get frustrated as the child may get frustrated as well when they cannot understand what you are teaching them. Therefore, having the patience to repeat your explanation or having the patience to look for other methods of teaching will be beneficial to the students.
Research
When teaching, if a child asks you a question that you do not know the answer to, instead of teaching the child the wrong thing by acting like you know the answer or by simply guessing what the answer might be, it is better to instead tell the child that you will get back to them with the answer.
This will give you the time to research the question and find the answer and also it will give you time to find the best way to explain it to the child. This way you can also make sure that the explanation you are giving the child is the right one and you are therefore ensuring that the student is learning the right thing.
